BONNIE
Project information
In a collaborative project with Liv Cycling, Sourcy produced, directed and edited a 16-minute documentary, “BONNIE”, about Liv’s founder Bonnie Tu.
Returning to cycling at age 57 whilst preparing for a company bike ride, the “Tour of Taiwan”, Bonnie Tu was shocked to discover the deep gender inequalities that ran through the bike industry she worked in.
“Why are there no bikes for women that material-wise, quality-wise are as good as the men’s?
…A women’s bike is not taking a men’s bike and shrinking it.”
So in 2008, Bonnie Tu founded Liv—the world’s first and only bike brand dedicated to women. She knew it was risky to invest in women-first research, design, and engineering – unconventional to demand that bikes, gear and opportunities be created for women, but that’s exactly how she made a difference.
We are absolutely delighted by the overwhelming response to the film and to Bonnie’s story, she’s is a tour de force in the cycling industry and one of the reasons women’s cycling has witnessed such growth in the last 15 years.
The film premiered on Youtube followed by a live Q&A with Bonnie and the Sourcy directors, the film accrued over 100K views in the first few weeks alone.
Look out for screening parties in 2025, our warm thanks to everyone who’s watched it so far.
